does anyone know about paint and guitars?
i have an acoustic guitar that i really need to get painted by
Christmas.I'm painting it dallas cowboys colors for my fiance.im going to spray paint
it silver then paint the start after the silver paint dries. Do i absolutely have to
sand it? How exactly would i do that? I'm going to spend all day on it tomorrow so i really really
need some help.it would be very much appreciated. also is there a specific kind of
paint i need? the spray paint i have is "Krylon- Premium- Sterling Silver.it says its for wood surfaces.

Getting a really professional looking job on this will be TOUGH. Don't to it to HIS guitar, he might not like the result. Only do it to a guitar that currently belongs to you, so he can't be mad if it doesn't work out.
Frankly, the kind of questions you are asking makes me wonder if you have the skills you need to pull it off: be honest with yourself, and good luck to you whatever you decide.
If you are painting the whole thing, you'll need to take the strings off. Try just doing the face of the box, leave the neck, sides and box alone.
Start by wiping it down with a damp cloth, then rubbing alcohol to disolve any oils. It needs to be completely clean if the paint is going to stick.
You will need to sand very lightly with a super fine paper to get the paint to stick. Go along the grain of the wood, not across it. Wipe again with rubbing alcohol to clean off the dust you just created.
TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't rush either the prep or the painting if you want a good result. Keep the can way back from the surface, and plan on doing several very light coats, allowing each one to dry completely before the next. You can always add a little more color later, but if you paint too heavy and get a run, it's very tough to get rid of it-- you basically have to start over.
Work in a well vented area without a lot of dust or activity so the paint can dry without any dust falling on it or anyone touching it.
